Prayer for Health and Long Life

Hari Om,
Swami Vishnudevananda performing Vrischika Asana(Scorpion Pose) before Swami Sivananda

O Adorable Lord of compassion and love,
Prostrations and salutations unto Thee.
O Lord, give me good health and long life,
Free me from my disease, O Lord of my Life.
Let my limbs be strong and firm.
Let my senses function vigorously.
Let my mind be fixed in Thee.
Let the three humours be harmonious.
Let the Koshas vibrate harmoniously.
Let me be full of vim, vigour and vitality.
Let my body, senses, serve Thee.
And let them not do any mischief or wrong.

Universal Prayer

Hari Om,

O Lord! I do want to serve the world disinterestedly and practise Nishkama Karma Yoga to get Chitta Suddhi. I am sometimes perplexed, agitated and depressed. I am in a dilemma. I do not know what to do. I have no clear idea of right and wrong. I have no knowledge of the Sastras and the Smritis. I do not know Sanskrit, Laghu nor Sidhanta Kaumudi. I have no training to hear Thy shrill inner voice.

This world is full of apparent contradictions, paradoxes and puzzles, peculiar troubles and difficulties. This world is peculiar. Thou hast given me a peculiar mind with peculiar habits. Nay, this world is full of temptations. I have no strength to resist temptations, public opinions, criticisms, oppressions, pressures and even assaults. I am not able to please anybody to the fullest extent. Enemies do crop up, though I keep quiet, though I do not interfere with anybody.

O sweet adorable One! Give me strength to control the restless turbulent Indriyas and the mind that ever wanders.  Stand behind me always and guide me in every inch of my action. Give me good Preranas((thoughts). Give me Chitta Suddhi. Give me a calm, pure and balanced mind. OLord, give me light, knowledge and purity. Om. Om. Om.

Do It Anyway

Hari Om,

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway.

P.S :The verses above reportedly were written on the wall of Mother Teresa's home for children in Calcutta, India, and are widely attributed to her.

Prayer of Peace

Hari Om,

May peace be unto all the quarters,
May peace be to the skies,
May peace be to the earth,
May peace be to the waters of the earth,
May peace be to the medicinal herbs,
And may peace be to all plants that grow on earth.

May peace be to all living beings,
May peace be to the celestials,
May peace be to Brahma, the Creator,
May peace be upon peace itself.

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Hari Om,

Oh Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace.

Where there is hatred, let me bring love.
Where there is injury, let me bring pardon.
Where there is doubt, let me bring faith.
Where there is despair, let me bring hope.
Where there is discord, let me bring harmony.
Where there is conflict, let me bring unity.
Where there is darkness, let me bring light.
Where there is sorrow, let me bring joy.

Divine Master, I do not seek so much to be consoled, but rather to console.
I do not seek so much to be understood, but rather to understand.
I do not seek so much to be loved, but to love.

For it is in giving that one receives;
for it is in consoling that one is consoled;
for it is in pardoning that one is pardoned,
and it is in dying to this little self that one attains everlasting light.
